A fairly big update this time, there has been a lot happening her in the last week. The plumber has been busy in order to get the new boiler and tank up and running. The gas has been connected, it is running through the yellow armoured pipe you can see below to the main gas feed in the far right hand corner near the existing back door.

The cold water supply has also been connected, it is under the boxing and insulation in the picture below. Eventually both the gas, and the water pipes will be buried beneath the flooring.

The hot water is currently connected from the new tank to the existing services in the two pipes shown below. In the fullness of time these will be removed and the final copper pipes will be used.

Finally on the plumbing front for this update, a picture showing the boiler and all its temporary pipework up and running.

There is still some finishing off to be completed, and the power is still running from a temporary supply rather than the final design. The house is warm and the showers all work, a job well done and we were never without hot water. Most impressive.

Way back in the update during June or July 2012 I pointed out a shelf in the garage for some data cabling. As we are now in the middle of first fix for plumbing and electrical services, the time is right for doing the first fix for the structured data cabling. I work in networking for an IT company, and believe that if a job is worth doing it is worth doing well. To that end I am planning to install 72 Cat 5E data ports throughout the house. This has been likened to an office installation by the Builder and the Electrician, even the Plumber had a laugh. Never the less, here are the 72 cables with patch panels ready to be laid throughout the house.

It is only when we get into the loft, which is 2 floors above the picture below it becomes apparent quiet how much cable I have to terminate later in the build process. The keen eyed ones amongst you may have noticed two more cable drums in the loft. One is twin-shot cable for the satellite dish to receiver, the other drum is for the UHF (TV) signals we will be using.

The picture below shows the new bedroom, the data cables at the back wall are staying and run between the shelf and the loft, the cables in the middle of the room are just temporarily hanging back down from the loft into the garage whilst I was doing some testing.

The stud walls and the rear windows are also in place now. Not fully completed but the rooms are definitely taking shape.

The new en-suite for the master bedroom is very easy to visualise now the wall positions are visible. With the large window it should be a bright room.

The new office is about 2.5 times the size of the existing office, it will be nice to have enough space for everything I try and keep in there. Hopefully with enough power and data points it will not have so many trailing cables either.

The final room in the new extension is the en-suite for the new bedroom, this is a similar size to the first en-suite but is orientated differently so looks smaller.
